Faith & Practice

Christian Counseling

Integrating truth, scripture, and spirituality with an evidence-based therapeutic approach.

Bringing a relationship with Christ into therapy can open up a perspective of mercy and care. Faith is never a substitute for clinical work here — it sits alongside it, making room for both honesty about what hurts and hope about what can change.

Whether you are wrestling with your faith, recovering from a painful experience in a religious community, or simply want a counselor who shares your values, you are welcome exactly as you are.

Areas of Focus

What we can work through together

If something here sounds familiar, you are not alone — and it is treatable.

  • Depression

Feelings of sadness or loss of interest accompanied by changes in sleep, appetite, energy, concentration, or self-esteem.

  • Anxiety

Difficulty controlling negative thoughts and worry — including restlessness, fatigue, muscle tension, and disturbed sleep.

  • Trauma

Intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings about a past experience — including flashbacks, nightmares, and feelings of anger, fear, sadness, or detachment.

  • Grief & Loss

Carrying the loss of someone or something that mattered, and finding a way to hold both the grief and the life that continues.

  • Anger

Anger that arrives faster or heavier than the moment calls for, and the strain it puts on the people closest to you.

  • Self-Esteem

Persistent negative and critical thoughts about oneself — “I’m not good enough” — leading to feelings of sadness, anger, anxiety, and worthlessness.

  • Relationship Issues

Recurring conflict, distance, or difficulty communicating with a spouse, family member, or friend.

  • Parenting Challenges

Raising children with consistency and confidence — including discipline, connection, and the questions that come with forming a family in faith.

  • ADHD

Difficulty with attention, organisation, follow-through, or impulsivity, and the frustration that builds around it.

Approach

Evidence-based therapy, ordered towards Christian Values

Proven clinical modalities, applied alongside the fundamental truths of the Catholic faith. Not only venting — concrete action towards your goals.

1

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy — identifying the thought patterns driving how you feel and act, and deliberately changing them.

2

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy — making room for difficult feelings while committing to action that reflects your values.

3

ACT Values

ACT provides direction and meaning, while goals are milestones along the journey. Acting in alignment with your values fosters purpose and fulfillment.

4

Solution-Focused Therapy

A results-oriented approach that starts from what is already working and builds concrete, achievable next steps.

About the Therapist

Pablo Barrios, M.Ed., NCC, LPC

Welcome to Barrios Family Counseling. As a devout Catholic, I integrate Christian values into our work to build a truth-filled life rooted in virtue, faith, and wisdom.

My goal is to build a trusting, Christ-centered therapeutic relationship by applying therapeutic techniques with the fundamental truths of the Catholic faith, helping people of all ages navigate personal challenges and build upon their inherent strengths. I believe it is not only about venting, but taking concrete action towards your goals.

I work with a variety of issues, such as those struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, anger, self-esteem, relationship issues, parenting challenges, and ADHD. My practice incorporates evidence-based modalities, including EMDR, CBT, ACT and Solution-Focused Therapy, to provide a structured and results-oriented path toward progress.
